“Just another chapter… watch it as it burns”

Showing the world incredible versatility in her songwriting and production, Australian independent artist Nicole Nighthawk has unveiled her second single “Going Under”.

Her debut as a solo artist with dark-pop single “No Tomorrow”, described by Australian Musician Magazine as “An impressive debut from a multi-talented artist.”, was a step away from her signature rock sound (with band Grandhour). Her newest single “Going Under” is a heavy-hitting, alternative rock track that encapsulates the feeling of despair as you navigate grief and the long and often lonely road to healing.

Nicole reflects on closing a huge chapter of her life, ‘“Going Under” was written back in 2018 after ending my marriage, my band, and leaving everything I knew myself to be, to start over again. This song was my grieving, an outpouring of all the emotions that hit me like, pulling me under.’

Recording began in Melbourne with producer Voya Milutinovic in 2019 but “Going Under” was to be shelved for nearly five years due to lockdowns, moving cross-country, and the search for the right ‘sound’ to match the heavy emotion of the song.

‘I also needed to be ready, emotionally. Sharing intimate pain with the world is not easy. Everything you’ve felt, everything you’ve been through, you’re picking up pieces of your broken heart and placing them into the hands of strangers. It’s a vulnerable moment for an artist.

The music video was filmed throughout 2021 whilst travelling Australia in a campervan. ‘The intimidating, raw energy of the outback spoke in volumes. The savageness of the scenery captured that feeling of being alone, lost in harsh, vast, nothingness… on a pilgrimage to find yourself again.’

Nicole Nighthawk’s candour in her songwriting resonates with anyone who has loved and lost.

Going Under is available on all major streaming platforms from February 20th 2025 with the music video dropping February 24th 2025.
